Ekachai Liverpool Street Review Of The Pan-Asian Restaurant

Review analysis

Ekachai is known for its casual pan-Asian dining experience based on Liverpool Street, the restaurant has just undergone a refurbishment and I was invited along to basically have a good old nosy.

Alongside the refurbishment they have a new menu which includes lots of ‘little plates ‘ which are great for sharing.

The Beef Pho came with bean sprouts, chilli and lime on the side which was great as I’m not one for the chillis so was great to leave it out for me.

Pho was such a large portion, it came with some lovely beef slices and a ton of noodles, I felt like it was never-ending, but was pretty glad as it was so yummy!

We both really enjoyed our meal, the food was lovely and the surroundings provide a calm and relaxed atmosphere which is a hidden gem to find amongst the hustle and bustle of Liverpool Street.

Ekachai Oriental Dining Room, Liverpool Street - review - Mostly ...

I have spent quite a bit of time in both Malaysia and Singapore over the past couple of years and the dishes at Ekachai seem authentic.

The list of main dishes spans that group of countries of South East Asia in a most delicious fashion.

There are quite a few classics such as Pad Thai – noodles with egg, chives, beansprouts and choice of prawn or tofu, and Sweet and Sour Pork, but much more that one might actually find in the exotic East.

I chose Sambal Udang which was light and flavourful – large prawns in a well-spiced chilli sauce with vegetables.

Ekachai Oriental Dining Room is casual dining at its best.

REVIEW: Ekachai, The Arcade, Liverpool Street - The Foodaholic

Ekachai serve a range dishes originating from South East Asia and has three branches in London, and one in Birmingham.

Starter of duck spring rolls were filled with sticky, shredded duck and vegetables. The pastry wrapping was perhaps a little thick but they did have a good crunch.

All swimming in a delicious spicy coconut sauce.

The star dish of our who meal was the Malaysian chicken capitan curry.

I wasn’t expecting tasty spring rolls, warming laksa or a delicious curry and at these prices I’ll definitely be back.

Their philosophy is Wok Hei, which means ‘breath of the wok’: a measure of skill for chefs where they impart the flavour of the wok into dishes.

The menu hails from Hong Kong, with dishes like Hong Kong beef brisket noodle soup, made of braised tender beef brisket, fine egg noodles, white radish and pak choi; Malaysia, offering up Tempe Soup, made from vermicelli rice noodles in a vegetable broth, with fried tempe, tofu, spinach and beansprouts; and Thailand, serving Nau Nam Prik Pao, which is beef slices wok fried with a fiery Thai chilli paste with fine beans, lime leaves and dried shrimp.

Ekachai at Flat Iron Square | Restaurant review – The Upcoming

food

You might head there to get a bite to eat before seeing a great band upstairs, finishing the night off with a stonebaked pizza or a drink at the bar.

With its great pricing, tasty dishes and generous portions, the restaurant is certainly a winner when it comes to that front.

A plate of Nasi goreng is both sizeable and delicious, perfectly cooked rice spiked with tender prawn and chilli.

Lots of those dining in Flat Iron Square will be doing so as part of a round of activities, so having seriously hot food would be a pretty big risk.

For the price point and the size of the servings, Ekachai still represents great value for money, but if you really want to get the best out of its Southeast Asian streetfood, ask for everything hot.
